Walter "Red" Edward Stearns, Ret. - Boston Fire Department


STEARNS, Mr. Walter "Red" Edward Of Concord, and formerly of Boston, MA passed away Tuesday at CMC-NorthEast Medical Center. His funeral mass will be 9:00 a.m. Saturday at St. James "the Greater" Catholic Church officiated by Father Joseph Dionne. Burial will follow at St. James Catholic Cemetery with military honors by the Cabarrus County Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Wilkinson Funeral Home. Mr. Stearns was born August 26, 1922 in Boston to the late William H. Stearns and Rose Doherty Stearns. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Gloria Goodwin Daly Stearns; brothers, Francis "Frank" Stearns, Robert "Bob" Stearns and George "Paddy" Stearns; a step-son, Jimmy Baker. Walter served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He retired from the Boston Fire Department and was a member of the Halligan Club, both in Charlestown. In Concord, he was a member of St. James "the Greater" Catholic Church. Walter is survived by his wife, Marjorie Guess Stearns; step-son, Rick Baker; step-daughter, Diane Baker, all of Concord; 11 step-grandchildren; 7 step-great grandchildren; nieces and nephews, including Michael Stearns, Michael Guess, Cindy Guess, Billy Stearns, and Walter Stearns. Memorials may be made to St. James "the Greater" Catholic Church Building Fund, 139 Manor Ave. SW, Concord, NC 28025.
