Update from the Chair

2017 proved to be an extremely busy year for the section. From our largest turnout at the FRI section meeting in our 16-year history to making great strides in code development, last year was a great success.

Many of our board members served on various working groups with other sections and interests in the IAFC. We were especially busy with ICC code-development activity that generated several proposals for the 2021 editions of the ICC Fire and Building Codes. We're looking forward to active participation in the ICC code hearings later this year and hope to see many of you there.

Chief Andy King
Chair, Fire & Life Safety Section

FLSS Election

The Fire and Life Safety Section is accepting nominations for the following board positions:

  • Chair: Two-year term, expiring August 2020
  • Vice-chair: Two-year term, expiring August 2020
  • Secretary/treasurer: One-year term, expiring August 2019
  • Board member at-large: Three-year term, expiring August 2021
  • Board member at-large: One-year term, expiring August 2019

All terms begin in August during Fire-Rescue International and end during FRI in the year noted with the position above.

Candidate qualifications for the board positions are included in the section bylaws (pdf). Note that only two at-large members from a single division can serve on the board at one time. This year, that means candidates from the Western Division are not eligible to run for at-large positions.

Any section member who wishes to be considered for nomination must email Russ Chandler the following information by February 26:

  • Name and office sought
  • Employer and position within the organization
  • Supervisor's written authorization to serve in the position being sought, where applicable
  • Disclosure of any potential conflict of interest, including private contractual or consulting relationships
  • Biographical information/platform of no more than 250 words
Submit for nomination consideration
FRI 2018

Make a point of blocking out time on your calendar for Fire-Rescue International, being held in Dallas August 8-11. While there, attend some of the great programs on leadership and community risk reduction, visit the expo and participate in the annual Fire & Life Safety Section meeting. FRI is also a great place to network with the FLSS community.
